About the Team


The Safety, Environment and Regulation (SER) division upholds safety and sustainability in our transport system. We’re working to deliver globally-recognised, safe, sustainable transport for our people, customers and the community.


Compliance Operations Inspectors are an important part of the Compliance Regulatory Operations Branch of SER. There are a large number of Compliance Operations Inspectors located around NSW, across a number of geographical locations reporting to Operations Managers, Sector Managers then to the Senior Manager Compliance Operations.



The opportunity


Right now, we have 15 permanent full-time opportunities for a Compliance Operation Inspector to join us in Bathurst (2), Botany (4), Penrith (3), Wetherill Park(3), Kankool, Armidale and Wagga Wagga.


A Compliance Operations Inspector undertakes high quality frontline compliance and enforcement activities, including inspection of heavy and light vehicles, in accordance with legislation, state-wide strategies and TfNSW operational policies/procedures.


In this role you must be prepared to work shift work. You are usually required to work 5 days per week Monday to Friday for 8 hours, with shifts generally between 4.00 to 20.00, although at some locations shifts can rotate around the clock and on weekends. Staff are also  provided one RDO (Rostered Day Off) in a 4 week period. These roles, on occasions, may require you to travel throughout NSW and work outside normal working hours.


  • Essentially you will be communicating with drivers, facilitating inspections of heavy vehicle mechanical roadworthiness, checking the mass loading and dimension of the vehicles, monitoring fatigue of drivers ensuring compliance with legislation.
  • You will be physically inspecting the vehicles and advising on compliance, and as an authorised officer, exercising delegations under the legislation which may require action to be taken before the vehicles can proceed on their journeys.
  • The main purpose of this role is to ensure the safety of all users of NSW roads and this is achieved through education and enforcement, with the emphasis on influencing the behaviour of drivers through education.



About you


We are looking for people (women and men ) who are enthusiastic and passionate about road safety, who are willing to learn about the ways we can achieve this through the regulatory policies and procedures, with the ability to communicate this and successfully perform in these roles.


You will need to have good people skills with the ability to interact with people at all levels, showing empathy so that you can understand the issues and how you can work with them to achieve successful outcomes. You will need to be firm, friendly and professional, while adhering to the requirements of the legislation.


You must have relevant automotive mechanical trade qualifications and you will have knowledge of enforcement operations and road freight transport issues.

Salary and Benefits


The salary for this position is USS Grade 6 ($85,474 - $90,949) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
