Risk Management is responsible for protecting the Group’s and Bankwest’s interests by offering insightful risk leadership and a commercial yet independent approach to managing risks.

Risk Management is accountable (to the Board and to regulators) for ensuring returns are achieved within an acceptable level of risk. Risk can therefore create substantial value for the Group by partnering with Business Units in strategic decision making as well as protecting the Group’s economics and reputation.

Do work that matters:

The Credit Risk team provides Line 2 assurance, specialist advice and oversight for credit risk across Bankwest. This includes ensuring group credit risk frameworks are being applied correctly through testing, review, assurance insight and challenge and where required, support the approve and accept mandate for Bankwest Line 2 Credit Risk.

The team performs regular assurance reviews, deep dives, testing and reporting on data quality across critical data elements. It is responsible for credit related regulatory oversight, including managing regulatory requests and attestations.

The role of a Credit Risk Associate supports the Credit Risk team to deliver initiatives designed to uplift Credit Risk maturity within Bankwest. This includes initiatives to embed risk frameworks, optimise policy and process, build risk capability and influence a healthy risk culture.

Key responsibilities for this role includes:

  • Provide key support to the Credit Risk team in the preparation of:

    • Regular reporting deliverables, including data analysis and commentary on credit risk items.

    • Line 2 Assurance activities, credit risk issue management and related control testing

    • Completion of the annual Prudential Attestation for Credit Risk related standards.

    • Write and present papers to senior management on review outcomes and agreed actions.

    • Assist with regulatory initiatives and information requests (as required)

  • Ensure that a high level of quality and accuracy is applied to ensure clear understanding, accuracy, completeness and alignment with CBA Group and regulatory standards.

  • Understand macro-economic, regulatory and social trends and the impact on credit risk.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders in Bankwest, Line 2 Risk Management, BPB and RBS on credit risk matters.

  • Develop broad understanding of divisional risk management practices and systems in consultation with peers.

  • Key time management skills, self-motivated to ensure timely delivery of all requests

  • High degree of problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of credit risk processes and banking systems desired

  • Familiarity with regulatory bodies (APRA, ASIC)

  • Strong concern for quality, accuracy and completeness
