The Data Governance role is critical to the success of Technology Services Group at the Institute. Join us at the start of our journey to becoming a data driven organisation. This a pivotal role at the Institute that will lead and manage all data governance activities and will have responsibility for improving the quality and managing the protection of sensitive data and information assets. You will apply previous experience with data, master data, data migration, data governance and governance documents to drive the practice of data governance across the Institute.


You will have a passion for data and in educating all levels of the Institute in the importance of data security to enable high levels of data literacy across the Institute, communicating with impact. You will feel confident and clear in interpreting the program vision and priorities with your client teams, working with legislative requirements and providing coaching to others on regulatory compliance matters relating to data governance.

 

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:


  • Provide ownership, leadership and direction in implementing the Data Governance Framework.
  • Establishing and ensuring adherence to the data governance framework for data policies.
  • You will be comfortable leading and embedding pragmatic governance practices in a rapidly changing environment.
  • The ability to develop and refine standards and controls to continually improve our data-confident posture.
  • Co-design and create the Data Governance strategy for the business including KPIs, technology and master data processes.
  • Act as a point of escalation for governance, data quality and protection issues.
  • Manage data as a strategic asset, maximising its value to achieve business objectives and addressing the stated data risk appetite and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Provide guidance, advice and support across the TSG team and wider Institute on data governance matters.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure successful application of data governance across the organisation.
  • Actively develop relevant data and technology policies, programs and operational practices to support the advancement of data governance within the Institute. Monitor changes in data governance-related regulatory requirements, actively managing risks and escalating where appropriate.

 

Qualifications, experience and skills required:


  • Minimum 5 years demonstrable experience in a similar role, with responsibility for implementing data governance practices and focus on policy creation.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant field of study e.g., Business & Commerce, Corporate Governance, Finance, Information Technology.
  • Previous experience implementing a business wide data governance framework.
  • Strong experience working across core data capabilities such as data quality, reporting and analytics, and master data management.
  • Previous experience leading, developing and executing upon a data governance strategy.
  • Strong communication skills be able to liaise with all levels in the organisation and translate technical Data Governance requirements that can be easily understood and actionable by the business.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working within an organisation with large volumes of data.
  • Level of proficiency across a range of data platforms and BI technologies.
  •  Experience in running large workshops / training.
  • Experience working with master data.
  • Extensive experience in data policy and framework design, delivery and implementation.
