The opportunity:

The position of Head of Data Governance will be a senior leader within the Strategy department reporting into the General Manager Data Governance & Business Insights. This position can be based in either Melbourne or Sydney.

In this role, you will be responsible for Driving Innovation - recommend and assist with technical improvements by introducing new techniques, tools, standards, technology to support enterprise data development.  You will also be responsible for improving agility, data quality and data governance of information to support business, in line with the Group Data Management.

To do this successfully you will:

  • Design and project manage the development of Data Hub and master data management platform.

  • Partner with IT to ensure the required infrastructure and EDS support is provided to enable delivery of data management and governance solutions

  • Bring a greater amount of agility in delivering the change in business reporting requirements either through tactical agile Data warehouse methodologies or strategic plays.

  • Develop, manage and maintain data models, including physical and logical models of the data warehouse, data marts, development and staging areas and source systems as necessary to meet new and changing business requirements

  • Implement a strategy to source all data requirements directly from ODS/ DDS/ DWH or source systems by using either standard data warehousing techniques and or using data virtualisation and other disruptive technologies.

  • Develop and maintain data controls and reconciliation processes to ensure the quality of data.

  • Develop and maintain the Data Dictionary/document metadata and other relevant documentation for the Data Hub.

Successful applications will demonstrate:

  • Bachelor, Technical Degree or Tertiary qualifications in Technology or related discipline

  • Extensive and practical experience in application development in MS SQL Server 2012/2016 databases or IBM/ Cognos

  • Hands on ETL experience with strong data warehouse background in Microsoft SQL 2016 (SSIS, SSAS and SSRS essential)

  • Sound knowledge of Life and/or General Insurance Industries highly regarded

  • Excellent knowledge of and experience in Data & Information Management

  • Strong capability with dashboard tools like Tableau, Microsoft Power BI

  • Ability to synthesize and analyse information from diverse sources to solve problems

  • Ability to communicate succinctly and persuasively, both verbally and through written presentations, and influence a broad range of stakeholders
