Job Description

When you work with us, you’ll support the Australian community as custodians of private data and public funds. You’ll undertake important and challenging work that directly contributes to Services Australia’s efforts to fight the exploitation of Australian Government’s system of social supports.

Our investigations, intelligence and fraud assurance professionals respond to a broad range of complex fraud and related criminal threats in a dynamic operating environment.

We are recruiting to fill a range of intelligence, investigations and fraud assurance mid-level professional roles (at the APS5 and APS6 level). In these roles, you will be responsible for addressing fraud and related criminal threats against the agency and the programs it administers.

As an experienced investigation, intelligence or fraud professional, you will have strong communication and interpersonal skills to sensitively manage complex situations. You will establish respectful, cohesive and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including law enforcement and security intelligence agencies.

These positions hold significant responsibility to make sound risk-based decisions within defined legislative, policy and procedural parameters. However we are looking for creative, critical thinking and curious mindsets to provide innovative recommendations to those decisions.

To be successful in these roles you will have an agile approach, be outcomes focused, exercise independent judgement, implement innovative problem solving and be able to adapt your communication to a wide audience. You are confident, tenacious and an assertive self-starter who uses their initiative. You are resilient, impartial to bias and you work well under pressure.

Some of our roles manage teams and require leadership experience and the ability to set your staff up for success in their work by managing, supporting and building a capable, diverse and agile workforce. Other roles require stronger data literacy and analytical, research and written skills or strong interviewing and verbal skills. Successful candidates will be placed in roles based on demonstrated strengths and business need.

All of our mid-level roles provide a high level of support to team and colleagues.

For these mid-level roles a strong knowledge and understanding is required of the following:
• fraud and risk management practices
• Commonwealth fraud control guidelines and the Australian government investigation standards (including the processes for the lawful transfer of information both internally and externally) and , the ability to quickly acquire and comprehend the following:
• relevant legislation, policies, procedures and information management requirements that apply to the Agency such as:
    o the compliance frameworks, the fraud environment and behaviours,
    o the role and responsibilities of the agency, including strategic objectives and priorities
    o the agency’s privacy, ethics, workplace health and safety and security protocols
    o relevant business systems and tools

Work Environment

Criminal Investigations Officers will be required to travel and participate in Field Operations that may occur out of standard hours. Services Australia’s workforce operates utilising an agile approach, and all staff should be prepared to redeploy to critical frontline functions as required. Should you need to redeploy as part of the agency’s surge workforce, all learning and development and technical/pastoral support will be provided to you to enable you to undertake that work.
