Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer this critical senior position is responsible for leading and directing the structure, priorities, strategies, statutory obligations and operations of the Governance and Legal Department, providing support to the elected Council and broader organization. As a visionary leader, you will review current processes and procedures and drive a culture of continuous improvement in this already high performing department. In conjunction with leading a collaborative team, you will be seen as a trusted advisor working closely with the CEO, Council and Executive and Senior Leadership Teams to provide high level strategic advice. The role will lead the Department and its team to provide internal legal services including guidance for agreement, contracts, leases and licenses and work closely with external legal advisors. Additional responsibilities will include the development and implementation of governance policies, legislative and probity guidance, Management of Councilor relationships, Council elections and coordination of advocacy. Furthermore, the Manager Governance and Legal will work professionally with employees across Council and liaise with relevant external stakeholders including, government departments, professional bodies and other municipalities.

To be successful in this role, City of Boroondara is seeking a collaborative, progressive and experienced visionary leader with significant expertise in leading a diverse range of regulatory and compliance functions. You possess extensive knowledge of legislative and regulatory functions, proven ability to develop, inform, implement and interpret strategy and policy as well as the ability to drive continuous improvement within a customer-focused environment. With a natural ability to build trust and maintain effective mutually beneficial and collaborative relationships with all of your internal stakeholders, you present as an exceptional people leader who is well regarded for building inclusive and collaborative teams, with a focus on achievement and delivery.
