The RBS Controls Office is focussed on supporting RBS to have best practice management of risks, controls and conduct to ensure customers get the right outcomes. We aim to make things simple and easy so that our customers receive the best experience and want to do more business with us. The Control and Customer Outcomes team challenge and enhance the way we govern, design and deliver products and services. The objectives of the team are to:

  • Implement and embed conduct risk management frameworks and controls within RBS;
  • Manage conduct risk awareness and uplift activity across RBS
  • Ensure compliance with the product governance standards set by Group;
  • Complete formal product and process reviews and control deep dives;
  • Recommend control enhancements; and
  • Develop business rules for better customer outcomes.

Do work that matters:

This is a 12 month secondment/fixed term role, with the key purpose of completing deep dive investigations into products and services focused on conduct risks and customer outcomes. The role supports and constructively challenges RBS to focus on risk events and how the design and sale of products impacts on customer outcomes and our ability to meet community expectations. You will work close with colleagues across product and distribution, and compliance and Customer and Community Advocacy.

Your responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct [link removed]. The Code of Conduct sets the standards of behaviour, actions and decisions we expect from our people.
  • Build and foster strong relationships across the product and distribution teams to ensure efficient delivery of strategic initiatives and resolution of issues identified during product reviews
  • The timely completion of product and cross-product reviews, identifying issues and risks specific to the product or process under review, with a particular focus on identifying and managing conduct risks.
  • Product reviews will require using a range of inputs into investigations, including data extracts, customer complaints, customer collateral, industry observations and workshops with key stakeholders to examine products, processes, systems, risks and controls
  • Preparation of qualified recommendations to senior leaders, clearly and concisely communicating these to drive the conduct agenda, and improve our products and processes for our customers
  • Provide administrative support in managing stakeholder materials, managing action plans and timelines
  • Successfully partner with the business units involved in the workstream and works to support their contributions for success of the Controls Office

  • Strong reasoning ability and negotiation / influencing skills, across a range of stakeholder groups
  • Ability to think critically, analytically and strategically
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • An understanding of retail banking products, sales processes and product design
  • Deep understanding of the ORMF/CRMF and Product design and distribution obligations is advantageous
  • 3-5 years' experience in banking/financial services/other relevant experience, and/or minimum 3 years' experience in Operational Risk management role
