The Consumer Finance Credit Risk team is accountable for leading projects that drive safe and profitable growth to each of our Retail and Small Business portfolios. The team also play a key role in developing new products and strategies to enhance the customer experience.

Our vision is to make every decision to manage credit with our customers as streamlined and smart as possible. We do this using advanced analytics and an unrivalled passion to put the customer at the centre of everything we do. We use complex data and tools to understand all aspects of the credit quality of our customer base and explain portfolio trends to senior stakeholders and business partners.

The team comprises of three key areas:

  • Credit Card Portfolio Management;
  • Personal Loans, Overdrafts and Transactional Product Portfolio Management;
  • Credit Risk Strategic Projects

This is a permanent role based in Eveleigh. We also offer remote working and a flexible workplace.

In any given week your responsibilities may include to:


  • Apply team member behaviour consistent with the CBA values and people capabilities
  • Accountability for managing a complex series of value generating programs within the Credit Card lending business
  • Ability to set short and long term plans for self and ensure these remain aligned with business partners
  • Best practice SME across analytics, data management, and compliance and governance
  • Coaching and growing analytical talent within the analyst community

Contribution to Profit/Business

  • Responsible for reducing the loan impairment expense whilst driving higher profitability through innovative solutions and design of new tools to aid the credit process, such as scorecards and other statistical methods
  • Hypothesis led analytics to understand and explain changes in portfolio performance, and formulating strategic initiatives to generate value
  • Best in class project management to ensure these initiatives are implemented successfully, and with full adherence to compliance and governance guidelines

Risk Management

  • Report, escalate and remediate issues in a timely manner and in line with the Group’s operational risk processes (e.g Risk Insight)
  • Pro-actively manage the closure of audit items raised as part of the regular cycle
  • Identify emerging issues with processes, assessment methodologies, and macroeconomic trends, and work to mitigate and remediate such issues

We're interested in hearing from people who:

  • Experience in Credit Risk, Analytics, or Data Science is preferred
  • Past experience in internalising and conceptualising a problem to identify core drivers, and solving through a hypothesis led approach is essential
  • Experience in change management, influencing, workflow management, and managing to the highest degree of compliance and governance (including documentation) is essential
  • Strong data manipulation and statistical analysis is required (eg. SAS, SQL, Tableau, CHAID)
  • Degree in relevant discipline, (qualification in Economics, Statistics, Maths, Actuarial studies, Engineering, or sciences is preferred)
  • High level proficiency in SAS / SQL and Excel
  • Ability to work with large data sets, and understand interactions between relevant data is a must for the role
