Senior Credit Risk Analyst

RBS Retail Products Credit Risk develops and implements credit strategies for all Unsecured retail credit products including Credit Cards, Personal Loans and Personal Overdrafts. These strategies span the entire consumer lifecycle from pre-marketing to customer management, including collection of overdue amounts. The team also provides advice and oversight to business teams managing Unsecured Lending.

Within this team, Consumer Finance Portfolio Initiatives forms part of the Strategic Projects team. The Consumer Finance Portfolio Initiatives team works across Personal Loan, Credit Cards and Personal Overdrafts to support credit risk initiatives that are across product. Our vision is to provide optimal customer service through expert insight and innovative solutions that support risk appetite and business strategy.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The role of Senior Credit Risk Analyst will support management in the identification, development and implementation of tools that can be used to grow our business within risk appetite. This will include providing analytics to support these changes and following the change management process to implement system changes.

More specifically:

Contribution to Profit / Business

  • Support management in the identification, development and implementation of tool and strategies in order to optimise profitability (e.g. PACC) and / or maximise productivity within risk appetite
  • Provide proactive input on the development of tools and strategies that includes actively looking to identify opportunities to add value
  • Produce analytics to identify risks using Customer data, ensuring quality of the highest standard
  • Provide commentary on observations and insights, ensuring quality of the highest standard
  • Data extraction and analysis;
  • Provide timely and accurate advice to key business stakeholders (includes Product, Operations and Risk)

Risk Management

  • Report and escalate issues in a timely manner and in line with the Group’s operational risk processes;
  • Identify emerging issues with processes and assessment methodologies, work to mitigate / remediate such issues.
  • Adhere to Governance frameworks

Leadership / Management

  • Work and interact closely with senior executives and key stakeholders including Operations, Finance, Legal, Risk and Product in monitoring and development of new collections strategies

We are interested in hearing from you…

  • Preferred background in Credit Risk, Analytics, or Data Science with a Financial Services organisation;
  • Demonstrated experience in using data manipulation and statistical analysis tools (e.g. SAS, SQL, Tableau) to convert large data sets into easily consumable and insightful reports and business recommendations;
  • Demonstrated experience using data to derive, justify and implement hypothesis driven strategy optimisation;
  • Experience in formulating and communicating ideas to senior management;
  • Experience in change management, workflow management, and managing risk to the highest degree of compliance and governance (including documentation);
  • Prior experience in project roles within a financial institution is highly regarded but not essential.
  • Degree in relevant discipline (e.g. Economics, Statistics, Maths, Actuarial studies, Engineering or Science) is preferred;
  • Proficiency in SAS / SQL and Excel is necessary for the role;
  • Ability to work with large data sets, and understand interactions between relevant data is necessary for the role;
  • Sound business acumen supplementing excellent communication skills and an appreciation of the importance of positive customer experiences;
  • Either an understanding of or a desire to understand how credit risk strategies can drive profit generation.
