Senior Manager Consumer Credit Risk

Job Description

How will I help? 

You will interact directly with business and risk management stakeholders across the Westpac Group, and with colleagues in related disciplines within the internal audit function.

You will support the Executive Manager for Consumer Lending in Group Audit to plan, develop and execute an internal review program for the Westpac Group covering credit portfolio risk management across Consumer Lending portfolios.

Scope areas include: product programs, retail credit risk management strategies (limit allocations, account management, collections), automated decisioning/scorecard management, and portfolio analytics, modelling and reporting.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of credit risk management practices, and any emerging risk which may affect the level of credit risk in the portfolio;
  • Identify and document areas of weakness in credit risk management processes and assist management to develop appropriate action plans;
  • Prepare detailed written reports, including opinions on the effectiveness of credit risk management practices;
  • Collaborate with other Group Audit teams to ensure the broader audit program is delivered in a professional, coordinated and efficient manner.

What do I need?

  • 10+ years’ financial services industry experience, with good knowledge of the end-to-end credit risk management of retail credit portfolios (e.g. development of acquisition and portfolio management strategies, automated decisioning techniques, risk appetites and credit policy; and in evaluating portfolio performance); 
  • Good commercial judgment, including the ability to evaluate the likely impact of control weaknesses and any emerging risks on portfolio quality and regulatory compliance;
  • Proven leadership, organizational, time management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and exert influence without direct authority;
  • Understanding of Australian regulatory obligations for credit risk management (e.g. APS 220 & 221, NCCP/responsible lending/Banking Code of Practice).
