Job Description

Safety Compliance Officer

The successful site safety officer must cover the following roles and responsibilities:

- Provide support to the project manager and project site manager in managing project safety aspects;

- Provide safety leadership

- Provide continuous improvement in terms of monitoring processes and work practices and recommends improvement where appropriate to enhance safety improvement processes to introduce good practice

- Promotes Metronet safety and performance standard and identifies and maintains good practices

- Administer site safety procedures in line with our client's policies and procedures; the project safety management plan, Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 (WA), Environmental Protection Act 1986 (WA) and Rail Safety National Law (WA) Act 2015;

- Work with Safety advisors to ensure compliance with our client's Policies and Procedures on the project;

- Provide in-field safety supervision;

- Remedy gaps in compliance with the above policies;

- Proactively mitigate hazards and risks on site;

- Conduct regular site safety audits and monitor that identified deficiencies are rectified;

- Attend construction planning meetings, identify and communicate safety requirements for construction activities;

- Review site safety induction pack and carry out site safety inductions for all new workers and other site visitors;

- Maintain the site safety board;

- Communicate safety topics, statistics and instructions in daily prestart, toolbox and other meetings;

- Assist the Safety Branch in conducting random drugs and alcohol tests;

- Maintain appropriate reporting and communication with our client's Manager Safety and Quality;

- Register hazards and incidents into “STARSS” system;

- Maintain professional communication with our client's project team and contractors personnel; and

- Ensures internal and external workers comply with all work performance standards.


- Appropriate health and safety qualifications;

- Valid WA construction card; and

- Rail Industry Worker - Supervised Workers (RIW-SW) card.


- At least 10 years of experience carrying out site safety officer role in medium to large projects preferably in rail works, but otherwise in roads and infrastructure construction; and

- Previous experience in rail infrastructure works.

Contract length: 6 months

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Salary: $47.10 per hour
