Your new role
You’ll manage the teams WorkCover claims and return to work programs for the organisation, through implementing and managing the Workplace Health and Safety Function, initiatives, programs, reporting and assessments. Reporting to the WHS Manager you will be expected to build meaningful relationships with stakeholders across the industry. This will include:
  • Co-ordinating WorkCover claims, attendance to the Injury management phone, managing return to work processes, early intervention strategies and injury management in conjunction with the People and Business Services team.
  • Ensuring medical case management of return-to-work programs, processes, record keeping, and reporting are compliant with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Reporting on lost time and duration of employee and industry participant injury claims.
  • Reducing lost workdays and claim durations of employees to achieve reduced premiums.
  • Assisting with recording, coordinating and advising on workplace health and safety issues and initiatives designed to make the organisation a safety leader.
  • Undertaking activities to maintain the highest level of health and safety
  • Manage stakeholder relationship both internally and with WorkCover Queensland and other relevant parties
  • Monitor and report on incident reports and conduct investigations where required

What you'll need to succeed
  • Demonstrated experience in providing WorkCover Queensland, return to work, injury management and WHS advice in accordance with relevant Queensland legislation
  • Demonstrated experience in claims management, in a WorkCover Queensland or self-insurance environment is essential.
  • Minimum three years ‘experience in a workers’ compensation customer service or claims management role with an insurer or self-insured organisation is highly desirable.
  • Experience within a workers’ compensation and injury management function and demonstrated agility and resilience to deal with critical incidents.
  • Superior knowledge of QLD Workers compensation and WHS schemes, Acts and Guidelines.
  • Ability to work autonomously to determine an appropriate course of action, and solve complex problems to achieve commercial objectives, i.e., implement an effective claim management and return to work program.
  • Superior conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to positively influence outcomes, discuss issues and reach agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with multiple stakeholders including the coordination of robust third-party relationships to achieve effective outcomes.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and flexibility when managing competing priorities.
  • Superior interpersonal agility with an ability to effectively organise and prioritise work.
  • A tertiary qualification certification or accreditation in Injury Management, return to work and/or Workplace Health & Safety is a pre-requisite, e.g., Certificate IV in Personal Injury Management and/or Diploma of Work Health and Safety.
  • May be required to work on weekends or extended hours when reasonably required.
